The Body: More then just what carries us

Our bodies and minds are connected, meaning physicals health impacts mental health, and mental health impacts physical health. Taking care of the body includes these two major concepts:

Nutrition

Without beating around the bush, the main thing with food is receiving the amount of calories your body requires to function (the brain needs at least 500 on its own!). Without professional guidance, 'cutting' calories can be one of the most detrimental things to the human body. Starting restrictive habits can lead to a life time of physical and mental ailments, ranging from malnutrition side affects to eating disorders.

Every single person will react to different foods and different eating habits. One person may thrive with vegan eating habits, while another may struggle in finding vegan habits that truly work for them and their lifestyle. The main thing about having balanced eating habits is making sure you have proper ratio of carbs, fats, and proteins, and making sure you receive all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.

A guide for balance eating.jpg

There will always be fads and eating habits that are popular at a given time. While some may be helpful, some may not be appropriate for everyone. For example, vitamin supplements can be extraordinarily helpful for expecting mothers, those experiencing seasonal deficiencies, or those who don't have access to fruits and vegetables. However, vitamins aren't a cop-out for eating a balance diet. Someone who struggles with eating enough in general has to make sure they don't develop a reliance on supplements.

Eat enough, eat balanced.

Movement

You may have heard of the phrase "use it or loose it". The phrase is exactly true for the body and all the parts the make it function.  Our joints, muscles, and ligaments all must be used or moved to retain their flexibility and strenght. The more continuously you preform an action, the longer you will be able to replicate that movement.

Many different types of exercises are available via professional training and through at home means. They should be picked based on your personal goals and what feels best! As long as you can challenge yourself and improve in areas such as strength, balance, and cardio, your form of movement can be any you want.

Exercise shouldn't be a punishment or a means to be deserving of any other kinds of self care. Exercise is like maintenance; if you don't maintain function of certain body parts, one day you'll go to use them and find them in need of a lot of repair.
